Stable Rugs

A stable rug is used to keep a horse or pony warm whilst in the stable, they are not usually waterproof so not for outside use. Most stable rugs are made from a padded, synthetic or quilted material and are available in different thicknesses/weights of filling that offer varying degrees of warmth to the horse.

Stable rugs are usually made of a breathable material, allowing perspiration to evapourate. Some stable rugs have pleats in the shoulders that allow for more freedom of movement. Stable Rugs can also come with integrated or removable neck covers and are available in a wide variety of colours.

The stable rug should be long enough so the horses belly is not visible, and should not be too tight round the chest and neck area, held in place by strap know as surcingles.
